Zakharova called on people to vote for deputies they can hold accountable after the elections

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said in a comment to TASS that one can listen to “extremists, foreign agents” and stage a “performance” at the elections “behind the curtain” or at a computer, succumbing to calls for protest voting. According to her, in this way the voter deprives themselves of the right to demand accountability from the elected deputy.

Zakharova said that in this case a person “dissipates” the responsibility that the deputy must bear in order to implement the decisions needed by the voter, and then “there will be no one left to ask”.

She urged Russians to vote for those from whom they will “already be able to ask in a week” about the work started in the office they hold, and then to monitor them “every day for five years”.

According to the diplomat, to do this one needs to know the deputy’s name, learn the office hours and the address where they hold meetings, and also study the legislation that regulates the deputy’s work. “This is your deputy”, Zakharova emphasized, adding that he is elected so that he implements decisions that people need, not engages in “nonsense”.

Earlier, Zakharova warned against pre-election provocations that, according to her, are organized by foreign agents. She stated that numerous calls to discredit the election procedure are being recorded in Russia, and such actions are an offense and carry liability up to criminal liability.
