Venice may raise the tourist access fee to €50 from 2027

Venice city council budget adviser Michele Zuin said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Gazzettino that the current fee has become too low and affordable. According to him, this has caused the measure to stop performing its regulatory function.

Zuin said that the request to the government to introduce a higher access fee is “not for profit”. He added that the current €5–10 is now affordable for everyone.

A fee increase from 2027 to €30 or even €50 instead of the current €5–10 is being discussed. The final amount has not yet been determined.

The measure is aimed primarily at so-called one-day tourists, who come for a short time and put pressure on the city’s infrastructure. In Italy, such visitors are called mordi e fuggi — “come and go”.
