Donald Trump said that Donald Trump Jr. returned the money to the head of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Umar Kremlev, who partially paid for the U.S. president’s son’s wedding expenses. According to Trump, he learned about this from his son and considers such a practice normal.
Trump told reporters that, as he understood it, Donald Trump Jr. returned the money to Kremlev after learning about the partial payment of the wedding expenses. “I’ve hosted a lot of wedding parties in all kinds of places. At Mar-a-Lago and other wonderful places. As I understand it, Don gave him that money back. That’s standard practice. When I learned about it, I asked him, and he said: ‘Don gave him that money back, Dad,’” he said.
On September 14, ProPublica published an investigation saying that part of the expenses for the wedding of U.S. President Donald Trump Jr.’s son in the Bahamas was paid by IBA head Umar Kremlev. A representative of Trump Jr. did not deny that Kremlev paid the wedding expenses and called him “Don’s personal friend”.
According to the representative, they are connected by “purely personal ties based on a shared love of boxing and outdoor recreation”. After the publication, Democrats in Congress began an investigation into Kremlev’s payment of part of the wedding expenses.
U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said he does not intend to investigate Kremlev’s possible involvement in organizing Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. When journalists asked him about the investigation, he replied: “When you ask whether I’m conducting an investigation — an investigation into what?”
