Over the seven months of this year, the number of rejected applications for citizenship in Russia increased by 10%, and decisions on forced termination of citizenship were made in relation to more than one thousand people. This was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.
As Interfax reported, Volk wrote about this in the Max messenger and referred to Ministry of Internal Affairs data for the first seven months of the current year.
According to her, more than 70% of decisions to terminate citizenship are related to convictions that have entered into force for serious and especially serious crimes. Another 11% were due to failure to fulfill the obligation of initial military registration.
About 10% of terminations, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, are related to actions that create a threat to the country's national security. Another 7% are related to facts established by courts of submitting forged documents or knowingly false information when applying for citizenship.
Volk also said that more than 65% of refusals to grant citizenship are related to forged, falsified, or invalid documents, or to unreliable information. According to her, such information is identified both at the application review stage and after citizenship is granted.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs representative summarized that providing unreliable information in both cases entails the legal consequences established by law. As follows from her message, the agency pays special attention to preventing the granting of citizenship to persons who do not have legal grounds for it.
