The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced 51-year-old resident of Zabaykalsky Krai, Ekaterina Malovechkina, to 24 years in a general-regime penal colony and two fines totaling 350,000 rubles. The court found her guilty of treason, participation in a terrorist organization, undergoing training in sabotage activities, sabotage, illegal manufacture and possession of explosive devices, and laundering criminal money.
The sentence was handed down by the 2nd Eastern District Military Court, Mediazona reported. The court said that Malovechkina admitted guilt.
According to investigators, in early 2025 she joined the Freedom of Russia Legion, and from March to June, on the orders of a “curator”, she put up “anti-government leaflets” in Krasnokamensk. Then, as law enforcement claims, the woman agreed to undergo training and blow up a section of railway track for the promised reward.
Until August, the court release says, Malovechkina coordinated an action plan with the “curator”: she was supposed to create a crypto wallet, conduct reconnaissance on the ground, buy bomb components, and assemble it. According to investigators, she then laundered the cryptocurrency she received, bought components for an explosive device, and assembled two bombs using instructions given to her via video link.
On August 24, according to the court, the woman placed the devices in a dug hole between the sleepers of the Transbaikal Railway line and detonated them. As a result, two reinforced-concrete sleepers were destroyed and one railcar was damaged.
The FSB reported the detention of the suspect in the railway explosion in September 2025: at that time, the woman's name was not disclosed, and her face was hidden in the video. The security service claimed that the detainee was born in 1974 and lived in Novosibirsk.
