Reuters source in the Russian government allowed the transfer of UniCredit and Raiffeisen assets into temporary management

Private draft

A senior Reuters source in the Russian government said that the transfer of Russian assets of Western companies into temporary management should make European countries think about sanctions. When asked about the Russian units of UniCredit and Raiffeisen, he replied: “Let them be afraid”.

ASTRA reported this, paraphrasing a Reuters publication. According to the agency’s source in the Russian government, such decisions should make European countries reconsider sanctions against Russia.

The source called this course “asymmetric measures”. When asked whether the Russian units of the Italian bank UniCredit and the Austrian Raiffeisen could be next, he replied: “Let them be afraid”.

In September, the Russian assets of Nestlé, Metro, and Auchan were already placed under temporary management. The Kremlin explained this by the growing involvement of “unfriendly countries” in hostilities against Russia.

According to Reuters, since the start of the war Russia has imposed temporary management on 135 companies linked to foreign business. Most of them are connected with EU countries, including Danone and Carlsberg, while large American companies have not yet been affected by these measures.
