Vladimir Putin said at the BRICS business forum in New Delhi that the deployment of European troops on Ukrainian territory would mean war with Russia. He also said that Moscow had “never threatened” European countries and saw no grounds for a conflict with Europe.

At the BRICS business forum in New Delhi, the capital of India, Vladimir Putin said that a possible deployment of European troops on Ukrainian territory would mean war with Russia. He asked what European leaders were pushing the peoples of their countries toward, and said that this means war with the Russian Federation.

Putin also said that Russia had “never threatened” Europeans, and that talk about a threat from Moscow is fiction. According to him, Russia has no grounds for a conflict with Europe, all issues were settled following the end of World War II, and what happened after the collapse of the Soviet Union was done with Russia’s consent as the successor to the USSR.

He added that anything that contradicts these agreements contradicts Russia’s interests and does not comply with the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter. In recent months, concerns have increasingly been voiced in Europe that Russia may attack one of the countries on NATO’s eastern flank, for example one of the Baltic states. The possibility of deploying a European contingent to Ukraine was actively discussed at the beginning of the year amid peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the US, and Ukraine, the UK, and France signed a declaration on the deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine after the signing of a peace treaty between Kyiv and Moscow.
