On the night of September 6, Russian regions came under a massive drone attack. In Ryazan Oblast, Governor Pavel Malkov reported a fire at one of the facilities, and the monitoring project ASTRA, after examining photos and videos published by eyewitnesses, claims that it is the Ryazan Oil Refinery.
ASTRA writes that a fire broke out at the facility. According to the project, the Ryazan Oil Refinery belongs to Rosneft and is one of the largest in Russia: its capacity is about 17 million tons of oil per year.
Regional authorities reported that in Ryazan and the Sapozhkovsky District, residential buildings were damaged by drone debris. Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties. ASTRA also notes that since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the plant has repeatedly been attacked by Ukrainian drones, including in May and July 2026.
In Rostov Oblast, Governor Yury Slyusar said about 30 drones were destroyed. In Rostov-on-Don, several apartment buildings were damaged; in the Sovetsky District, the upper floors and roofs of two buildings were affected; in the Leninsky District, an apartment and the glazing of a residential building were damaged; and damage was also recorded in the Kirovsky District. As a result of the attack in Rostov-on-Don, three people were injured; two, including a child, were hospitalized, and another person received assistance at the scene.
Damage was also recorded in other districts of Rostov Oblast: in the Azovsky District, four private houses were damaged; in Bataysk, a house in a gardening partnership; in the Myasnikovsky District, the roof of a residential house; and in the Chertkovsky District, a locomotive was damaged by drone debris. Because of this, seven passenger trains were delayed. In its morning summary, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported intercepting and destroying 258 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions, Krasnodar Krai, annexed Crimea, as well as over the Black and Azov Seas.
