Private draft
At the El Valle immigration jail in Texas, USA, more than 30 people have gone on hunger strike, including Russians. The protest began on October 11: first 15 women joined it, then another 20 men.
Participants in the protest complain about poor conditions of detention, lack of medical care, and demand that their rights be respected. The husband of one of the participants told journalists that, according to him, the jail administration does not monitor the condition of those on hunger strike and tells them that the only way out is deportation.
El Valle has become the third migrant detention center where detainees have gone on hunger strike. According to Vot Tak, the protest also began at the Winn immigration jail in Louisiana, USA.
At the beginning of October, asylum seekers at the D. Ray James immigration jail in Georgia, USA, filed a collective complaint about the conditions of detention and said they planned to begin a hunger strike. Russians from D. Ray James complained about poor food, communication problems, and the inability to see a doctor even with acute pain.
According to the American public broadcaster Georgia Public Broadcasting, about 500 people are taking part in the hunger strike at D. Ray James. On October 11, Agentstvo reported that one of the organizers of the hunger strike in Georgia, Russian Idris Makhmudov, had been deported from the USA, and about 40 participants in the protest ended up in solitary confinement.
