LIGA Group temporarily отказалась from the laptop plant in Yekaterinburg in favor of drone simulators
Private draft
Yekaterinburg-based LIGA Group has temporarily отказалась from building a plant to produce laptops, tablets, and other electronics. Instead, the company decided to invest in simulators for teaching schoolchildren how to operate drones.
About the decision to temporarily отказаться from building the plant in Yekaterinburg, LIGA Group CEO Alexey Lezhnin told RBC. Instead of the project to produce laptops, tablets, and other electronics, the company decided to invest in simulators for teaching schoolchildren how to operate drones.
The plant was planned to be built in the Kosmos industrial park. According to Lezhnin, the company still cannot move onto the site because the central microchip manufacturing facility has not been launched.
The head of LIGA Group also pointed to the economic situation and the problems of Russian laptop manufacturers. He stated that launching such production requires sufficient volumes and special conditions, and that most similar projects are currently suspended.
The new project involves a hardware-software complex consisting of a program, a joystick, and a virtual reality headset. It is intended to be installed in computer labs, where students from the eighth grade are taught how to operate drones. The company promises to release the first version of the product by the end of 2026.
LIGA Group estimates the investment in development at tens of millions of rubles and expects to recoup it in two to three years. At the same time, in March 2025, the authorities of the Sverdlovsk region reported that the company should begin trial production of computers within a year, and by 2027 build a plant with an area of 7 thousand square meters. At that time, the investment volume was estimated at 100 million rubles, and the plant's capacity at 150–180 thousand laptops, tablets, all-in-ones, and interactive kiosks per year.
