Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region, Major General Sergey Malkov, has been charged with taking a bribe on an especially large scale and illegally creating a company. TASS reports this, citing case materials; he was previously detained in a fuel theft case.

According to TASS, Malkov’s case now includes four Criminal Code articles: embezzlement under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code has been supplemented by taking a bribe on an especially large scale, illegal company formation, and abuse of official powers.

Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code is embezzlement, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The essence of the claims in the new episodes is not disclosed in the case materials.

The detention of the deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region became known in early September. At the time, it was reported that he was accused of fuel theft, and media outlets estimated the damage in the case at more than one million rubles.

At first, Malkov was sent to pretrial detention, but at the end of September he was placed under house arrest. The day before, on October 21, he was sent back to pretrial detention.

TASS writes that he repeatedly violated the preventive measure: he went to restaurants and lived in the same apartment with his wife, who is a witness in the case. In the same case, top managers of the company Eurotrans, which owns the Trassa gas station network, have been detained.
