Anthropic’s net loss for the first half of the year rose to $80.7 billion

Private draft

Anthropic's net loss in the first half of 2026 amounted to $80.7 billion, compared with $13 billion a year earlier. A draft IPO prospectus suggests the San Francisco company could go public in November.

The bulk of the loss — $72 billion — consists of an accounting entry reflecting the increase in the estimated value of bonds that may later be converted into Anthropic shares. This entry is not tied to actual cash spending on operations.

The company's spending on computing power and infrastructure over the half-year rose to nearly $9 billion from $2.3 billion a year earlier.

At a meeting with potential investors on October 14, Anthropic said its revenue in the third quarter increased by 45% compared with the previous quarter and reached $16.8 billion. Some investors were disappointed by the slowdown in growth: in the second quarter, revenue more than doubled to $11.6 billion.

According to Reuters, some investors are now considering a valuation of the company at about $1.5 trillion. They believe that the near-term prospects for the entire AI market largely depend on the success of Anthropic's offering, which could be followed next year by OpenAI's public listing.

Anthropic has committed to spending at least $518 billion on cloud services, computing, and infrastructure over ten years. In September, it was reported that according to the IPO prospectus, the company ended fiscal 2025 with a net loss of $42 billion, about $34 billion of which came from a similar accounting revaluation.

The company's revenue grew twelvefold over the year to nearly $4.6 billion, while operating loss exceeded $8 billion.
