Zelensky said that after meeting with Donald Trump, the U.S. president is positively disposed toward the idea of granting Ukraine a license to produce missiles for Patriot systems. In the Ukrainian president’s assessment, such production could be set up in Ukraine in about a year to a year and a half.
Separately, Zelensky said that when asked about possible deliveries of Patriot interceptor missiles, he did not receive a specific answer. “No one said ‘no,’ but I did not get a particularly specific answer”, he quoted after the conversation.
Another topic of the meeting was a possible energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said that Kyiv is ready to stop strikes on Russian energy facilities if Moscow gives up attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, and added that Ukraine is ready to consider any format for such an agreement.
According to Zelensky, the U.S. promised to pass the relevant proposal to the Russian side. He also stressed that a unilateral отказ by Kyiv from strikes on Russian targets was not discussed at the meeting with Trump. “He attacks us — we respond”, Zelensky said and expressed hope that with Trump’s help the full-scale war can be ended by winter.
