Зelensky said that «Flamingo» and Pelican were used in the nighttime strike on Moscow and the Moscow region
Private draft
On the night of September 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in the strike on Moscow and the Moscow region, Ukrainian forces used several types of missiles, including Flamingo cruise missiles and Pelican ballistic missiles. According to him, one of the key enterprises of Russia’s oil industry and a logistics facility were hit.
Zelensky wrote in a Telegram channel that Ukrainian long-range systems operated “very noticeably” in the Moscow region this night. He listed FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, Palianytsia, Vendetta, February, Bars, Flamingo, January, and Pelican.
According to the Ukrainian president, this refers to the destruction of one of the key enterprises of Russia’s oil industry and an aggressor logistics facility. He linked Pelican to ballistic projectiles developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, and called Flamingo cruise missiles.
The media outlet Radio Svoboda wrote that Pelican, as claimed, had not been used before. It also noted that the declared range of these missiles is 200–300 km, meaning less than the distance to Moscow.
Military observer Yan Matveyev called Pelican, or FP-7, a new ballistic missile whose development Fire Point planned to complete this autumn. He clarified that in the previously announced FP-7 configuration, the range is 350 km, and suggested that this could be a different Pelican munition or a greater actual range.
Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh said last week that strikes on Russia with FP-7 missiles, capable of carrying up to 150 kg of warhead, are expected in the coming weeks. Russia’s Defense Ministry said that overnight air defense and electronic warfare forces intercepted 1,110 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones in 18 regions, as well as in Moscow and the Moscow region, Crimea, and over the waters of the Black Sea; according to the ministry’s previous reports, this was the largest attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces throughout the war.
The Rybar channel reported that at least 1,300 drones were launched in total and only 11 of them were not shot down, and that the strike itself had been prepared for almost a month. Russian authorities reported strikes on the Moscow oil refinery, TETs-22 in Dzerzhinsky, and a large warehouse in the Ramenskoye district, as well as at least two dead and 20 injured.
