Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Reuters that Kyiv will intensify strikes on Russian oil refineries. He also said that the long-range ballistic missile FP-9, developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, will be ready as early as this fall and will be able to reach Moscow.
In an interview with Reuters, Zelensky said that Ukraine will intensify strikes on Russian oil refineries in response to the Russian army’s new tactics. According to him, Ukrainian intelligence services obtained documents showing that Vladimir Putin approved a “new doctrine” involving strikes on a much broader range of civilian targets before winter.
He said this refers to strikes on infrastructure and logistics, as well as on cities and villages — on roads, schools, and hospitals. Zelensky claims that the goal of such an operation is to force people to leave the capital and other cities.
According to Zelensky, Kyiv has been subjected to continuous missile and drone attacks over the past week. Energy and communications facilities, road and railway infrastructure were hit, and Russia is for the first time striking bridges across the Dnipro connecting the two parts of Kyiv.
On October 3, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that as early as May it had urged foreign citizens and diplomats in Kyiv to leave the city and refrain from traveling to Ukraine. In the same statement, the ministry said that the Russian Armed Forces would continue carrying out “massive retaliatory strikes”.
Zelensky also said that the long-range ballistic missile FP-9, being developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, will be ready as early as this fall. According to the manufacturer, the missile will be able to fly up to 855 km and carry a warhead weighing up to 800 kg, which, according to Zelensky, makes it capable of reaching Moscow.
Earlier this week, he said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had used the company’s FP-7 tactical ballistic missile in combat for the first time.
