Yemen’s Parliament Approves General Mobilization Against the Houthis
Private draft
Yemen’s Parliament approved general mobilization and the introduction of a state of emergency in response to the increased attacks by the Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement. The resolution takes effect immediately and will remain in force until the reasons for its adoption are eliminated.
According to the Yemeni agency SABA, the decision is linked to the need to protect citizens, preserve the republican system and constitutional order, as well as Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The resolution adopted by the government takes effect immediately and will remain in force until the reasons for its declaration are eliminated.
Last week, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Council, Rashad al-Alimi, called on citizens to “make their contribution” to the fight against the Houthis “by all possible means” and promised amnesty to fighters who deserted the group.
At the beginning of September, the Houthis took control of the port of Mocha, and then seized the island of Perim in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which separates the Red Sea from the Arabian Sea and remains an important trade route in the region.
SABA writes that the Houthis are supported by Tehran, the capital of Iran, and this, according to the agency, could give Iran a serious advantage in its war with the United States.
The agency also claims that Houthi attacks regularly affect energy infrastructure in neighboring Saudi Arabia, and France last week decided to place its military and defense systems at Riyadh’s disposal, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to protect oil facilities.
