On the night of September 17, Ukrainian drones attacked the Yaroslavl, Rostov regions and the Moscow region. A fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Yaroslavl region, and in Rostov-on-Don, after a transformer substation was damaged, power outages began in four districts; authorities said there were no dead or injured.
In the Yaroslavl region, more than 60 Ukrainian drones attacked the region on the night of September 17, Governor Mikhail Evraev said. A fire broke out at the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez oil refinery (Slavneft-YANOS), and falling debris shattered windows in several apartment buildings and damaged cars.
Evraev wrote that there were no dead or injured, and that emergency firefighting was underway at the facility. This refinery is one of the largest in Russia: its capacity is up to 15 million tons of processing per year.
The plant had already been targeted by drones on August 28, and since the beginning of the year it has been hit at least eight times. Last night, Ukrainian drones also attacked the Rostov region, Governor Yury Slyusar said.
According to Slyusar, there were no dead or injured, and the resulting fire was promptly extinguished. In Rostov-on-Don, after a transformer substation was damaged, power outages occurred in four districts.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported six drones shot down while heading toward the capital and gave no other details. The Russian Defense Ministry said that overnight air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 64 Ukrainian drones over 20 regions, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Azov, Caspian and Black seas.
