On Sunday night, drones attacked Moscow and the Moscow region. Two people were killed, and an object on the grounds of the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya caught fire.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called the raid the “most massive” UAV attack on the city and said that since yesterday more than 1,600 drones had been shot down at all lines of defense, 450 of them while approaching Moscow. According to him, one UAV hit a residential building in the Orekhovy Bulvar area near the Moscow Oil Refinery.
In the area of the Moscow Oil Refinery, eyewitness footage showed several large fire hotspots. Several drones reached Gazprom Neft’s Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya and damaged an object on the company’s premises.
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said that in Sofyino, southeast of Moscow, a drone hit a three-story house, where a 44-year-old woman was killed and five more people were injured, including two children. In the Orekhovo-Zuyevo district, an elderly man was killed when a UAV struck a private house, and another person was injured in the Leninsky district.
After the attack in Sofyino, a warehouse complex belonging to OOO “Sovremennye Skladskie Tekhnologii” with a total area of 290,000 sq. m caught fire. In the Ramensky district on Severnoye Highway, the roof of a 21-story building caught fire due to the fall of a UAV; 400 people were evacuated, including 70 children, and 20 cars were damaged.
The Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya is a plant with a capacity of up to 14 million tons per year, which provided about a third of the capital’s fuel consumption. After the attacks on June 16 and 18, the plant suspended operations because both primary oil processing units were damaged; it was later restarted, but according to the Financial Times, it was operating at one-third capacity.
According to preliminary data, Ukrainian drones also struck the CHPP-22 in Dzerzhinsky near Moscow; Ukrainian monitoring channels wrote about this, and the information was confirmed by Astra. The thermal power plant is located about 2 km from the oil refinery, has a capacity of 1,375 MW, provides electricity and heat to the southeast of the capital, Dzerzhinsky, and part of the Lyubertsy district, and also supplies process steam to the Moscow Oil Refinery; authorities did not report an attack on CHPP-22. Sobyanin said the raid was planned to disrupt the elections, but according to him, this did not succeed.
