U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the public execution of Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of murdering 13 fellow service members at Fort Hood in Texas. According to CBS News, the American military plans to broadcast it live; the execution is scheduled for December 3 and will be the first execution of an American service member by firing squad since World War II.

Meduza reported that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the public execution of Nidal Hasan and said that people should understand that serious consequences follow such actions. A Pentagon spokesperson told CBS News that the American military plans to broadcast the execution live.

The death sentence is set to be carried out on December 3 at Fort Hood in Texas, where in 2009 military psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan shot 13 fellow service members and wounded 32 people. This happened several weeks before their deployment to Afghanistan.

According to the report, this will be the first execution of an American service member by firing squad since World War II. At the trial, Hasan, who practices Islam, said that he acted for ideological reasons. He was sentenced to death in 2013. On October 6, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump authorized the execution.

Hasan was wounded during his arrest and is partially paralyzed.
