The Hunting Department in Tomsk Oblast Was Included in the Priority Fuel List
Private draft
The Department of Hunting and Fisheries of Tomsk Oblast was included in the list of priority organizations for receiving fuel amid the increasing appearances of bears near residential areas. This was reported at a briefing by Vasily Potemkin, deputy chairman of the Tomsk government.
Potemkin said that gasoline is now provided not only to the hunting service, but also to people who are involved in animal capture. According to him, their routes are not known in advance, so they need a constant fuel reserve.
In the past month, bears have been coming more often to residential areas of Tomsk Oblast. Due to the threat of attacks by these animals, activities in the region's forests were restricted until November 1.
Potemkin also reminded that over the past few months, 17 people have died from bear attacks in the regions of Siberia and the Far East. In Tomsk Oblast, the bodies of two people who were torn apart by a bear were found on September 20.
One of the reasons for such behavior of the animals is said to be a poor harvest of cedar nuts, which is considered the bear's main food base. According to this assessment, the most difficult situation has developed in Eastern Siberia, where wild animals approached schools, military units, and tried to enter residential houses.
