The European Archery Federation (World Archery Europe, WAE) announced that starting January 1, 2027, it will lift restrictions on the Russian Archery Federation, its athletes, teams, and officials.
According to the federation, allowing Russian athletes should not conflict with the laws and requirements of the countries that host competitions under the WAE umbrella. The federation also said it continues to support the Ukrainian archery community and everyone affected by the ongoing war.
The decision was made at an executive council meeting in late October. Over the past few months, international sports organizations have also eased restrictions on Russian athletes, introduced, among other things, because of Russia's war against Ukraine.
On July 7, the International Olympic Committee temporarily reinstated the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee and deemed the recommendations on allowing Russian athletes to compete obsolete. At the end of October, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered the International Ice Hockey Federation to allow the Russian national team to compete in international tournaments.
After that, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Norway, and Denmark said they would not take to the ice against the Russian national team. Germany threatened to refuse to host the World Championship if Russians took part, and Canada promised not to let Russian hockey players into the junior world championship.
