The EU imposed sanctions on 10 people and 17 organizations, including judges in Yabloko cases and a camp in North Korea
Private draft
The European Union imposed sanctions on 10 people and 17 organizations that the EU considers involved in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia and to occupied territories, as well as in the “suppression of democratic opposition” in Russia. The restrictions affected Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov, Russian officials in occupied territories, and the Songdowon children’s camp in North Korea.
This is reported by Mediazona, citing the EU website. The document says the sanctions are linked to the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children and their “forced assimilation, including indoctrination and militarized education”.
The restrictions affected Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov and Russian officials working in the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, as well as in the self-proclaimed DPR and annexed Crimea. The list names ministers of education, sports, and tourism and their deputies, as well as directors of children’s camps and schools.
Among the organizations on the list was the Songdowon children’s camp in North Korea. The EU’s justification says that children taken out of Ukraine are sent there, and in the camp they are exposed to carefully selected narratives promoting pro-Russian ideology.
The list also includes the Center for the Study and Network Monitoring of the Youth Environment, the Moscow City Tourism Committee, the Ocean children’s center in Vladivostok, the Preobrazhensky Defense and Sports Center in Moscow, and children’s camps from the Rostov region, Dagestan, Krasnodar Krai, and other regions.
The EU also imposed sanctions on 10 people for the persecution of the Russian opposition. The restrictions affected Supreme Court judges Vyacheslav Kirillov, Igor Zinchenko, and Denis Tyutin: by their decision, the federal list of the Yabloko party was removed from the State Duma elections. The list also includes prosecutor Ilya Rusakov and CEC representative Sergey Sakharov.
In addition, the EU added Pskov City Court judge Viktoria Malyamova, who sentenced politician Lev Shlosberg to 11 years and 1 month in a penal colony, and prosecutor Anna Goryacheva, who had demanded more than 12 years in prison for him. The sanctions list also includes Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky Court judge Elina Babayants, who sentenced Yabloko deputy chairman Maksim Kruglov to seven years in a penal colony, state prosecutor Yulia Guznyayeva, and Vyborg District Court of St. Petersburg judge Elizaveta Truskalenko, who fined Yabloko chairman Nikolai Rybakov under a protocol on “extremist” symbols because of a portrait of Alexei Navalny.
