The EU imposed sanctions against the former head of RT in France, Ksenia Fedorova
Private draft
The European Union imposed sanctions on September 24 against journalist Ksenia Fedorova, who previously headed RT in France. Her name became the 81st in the EU’s separate sanctions list for Russia’s destabilizing actions, created in 2024.
As Radio Liberty reports, on September 24 Ksenia Fedorova was included in a separate EU sanctions list for Russia’s destabilizing actions. This list was created in 2024 and does not coincide with the EU’s main set of sanctions related to the war in Ukraine.
Fedorova became the 81st figure on this list. The EU Council believes that she spread Kremlin narratives in the European Union.
The document says that Fedorova portrayed Western and European support for Ukraine as a factor prolonging the war, described Russia as a country striving for peace, and at the same time depicted Europe as a supporter of confrontation. She is also accused of casting doubt on established facts about the illegal removal and deportation of Ukrainian children and spreading statements in which EU and NATO policy is presented as a threat to European security.
The French Foreign Ministry said that Fedorova’s inclusion on the sanctions list was a joint initiative of France and Germany. It also thanked other EU countries for supporting this initiative.
In July 2026, France, where Fedorova lived and worked, decided to expel her from the country and freeze her assets, accusing her of participating in foreign campaigns of manipulation in the information sphere, which the authorities called a serious threat to public order.
Fedorova has worked with several right-wing French media outlets, calls the French authorities’ actions censorship, and continues to challenge them in court. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, commenting on the sanctions, said that this is “deterrence, not censorship”.
