The CEO of the Eiffel Tower operator will resign after a review of the BAPS delegation visit

Private draft

SETE CEO Patrick Branco Ruvo will step down at the end of the year after an internal review of the decision to bar female Eiffel Tower staff from serving a delegation of the Indian religious organization BAPS on September 5. This was reported by Associated Press, citing a company statement.

SETE called what happened an “unacceptable situation”. Company chairman Ariel Weil said he had instructed the implementation of measures and training programs to promote gender equality.

Ruvo has headed the company since the end of 2018. According to SETE, the internal review found violations in the organization of the BAPS delegation visit, which led to female Eiffel Tower employees being excluded from serving guests.

The company clarified that the delegation was in Paris for the opening of a traditional Hindu stone temple. BAPS told AP that the restrictions were related only to organizational and logistical considerations and were not a request based on gender.

The Eiffel Tower receives about 7 million visitors annually. On September 7, it was closed because of a strike by employees protesting management instructions to “limit interactions with women”, and the monument reopened the next day.

At that time, Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire supported the protesters and promised to launch an investigation. On X, he wrote that equality between women and men must be upheld everywhere, including at the city’s historic landmarks.
