T-Bank launched QR code payments in Egypt, Tanzania, and Kenya

Private draft

T-Bank launched QR code payments for purchases in Egypt, Tanzania, and Kenya. The new feature was presented at the third Russia-Africa Summit, the bank’s press service said.

The T-Bank Pay service allows you to pay for purchases by QR code in Egypt, Tanzania, and Kenya. It works in the T-Bank mobile app with no commission and no need to open an account in a foreign currency. To pay, you need to scan the QR code on the payment terminal or the seller’s smartphone in the app’s “Scan” section.

After scanning, the screen shows the store name, the purchase amount in the local currency, and its equivalent in rubles. The user selects the account to be debited and confirms the transaction, while the conversion of rubles into the local currency is carried out at the bank’s internal exchange rate at the time of payment. Customers also have access to installment payments by credit card.

The bank said that the service requires app version 7.29 or higher for iOS or 7.26 for Android. It also noted that customers can transfer money by card number from Russia to 34 African countries, and from October 2024 to October 2026 the volume of such transfers in monetary terms increased almost 35-fold. By transfer volume, Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania, Zambia, and Ethiopia lead the way. Earlier, QR payments via T-Bank Pay became available in Armenia, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
