Private draft
Six-year-old Lian Yunzhi from China set the women’s world record for average 3×3×3 Rubik’s Cube solving time. Her best average result was 4.27 seconds, and the World Cube Association (WCA) has already added her to its list of record holders.
Earlier this month, Lian first broke the record at WCA-certified competitions in Wuhan, the Chinese city where she posted an average result of 4.52 seconds. Then, at a tournament in Guangzhou, another Chinese city, she improved her own achievement to 4.27 seconds; in Wuhan, her fastest attempt took about 3.54 seconds.
According to the state broadcaster CCTV, no other female athlete has managed to average below 4.5 seconds. As the broadcaster reported, the girl first picked up the cube at age four and then took about 90 seconds to solve it, and at first she lacked confidence to compete. Lian’s mother said that her daughter used to be a withdrawn child, but now has become very self-confident.
According to CCTV, she has mastered more than 1,300 algorithms and has recently been training about two to three hours a day. Her parents also took her to Shanghai, a Chinese megacity, for lessons with top coaches.
