On the program “Status” on September 29, political scientist Ekaterina Shulman stated that Alexander Kynev, who was arrested on September 25 in a drug case, had his leg broken in two places and was pressured to confess to treason. According to Shulman, Kynev did not do so.
Shulman said that this information had “come out” and become public knowledge, including internationally, but she did not name the source of the information.
As Meduza reported, Kynev’s lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov, told Echo that the defense has no documents confirming Shulman’s words.
Alexander Kynev is one of the most authoritative specialists in Russian regional politics and elections. On September 25, it became known that a court had arrested him on charges of producing and selling drugs in large quantities.
According to the publication “Word of Defense”, Kynev was severely beaten during his arrest. After the arrest, he was diagnosed with two tibia fractures and placed in the hospital at the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center.
Later, Biryukov confirmed that his client had been hospitalized after the beating. He also said that materials concerning unidentified persons who caused bodily harm to Kynev during the arrest had been separated into a separate proceeding.
