Russia’s Ministry of Defense said it intercepted 1,073 drones over three consecutive 12-hour periods, while in Kaluga, apartment buildings and private homes were damaged after the attack. Several people suffered minor cuts from glass shards and did not require hospitalization.

On the night of October 3, the Russian military ministry said 218 drones were destroyed and intercepted over the Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, and Tula regions, the Moscow area, Krasnodar Krai, annexed Crimea, as well as over the Azov and Black seas.

The day before, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported another 646 UAVs shot down from 20:00 on October 1 to 08:00 on October 2, and 209 drones intercepted from 08:00 to 20:00 on October 2. In total, over three consecutive 12-hour periods, the ministry reported 1,073 drones, and there is no independent confirmation of this figure.

In the Kaluga region on the night of Saturday, Governor Vladislav Shapsha reported 13 downed drones. According to him, the drones were intercepted over Kaluga, as well as over the Zhukovsky, Iznoskovsky, and Maloyaroslavetsky municipal districts.

As a result of the attack, apartment buildings and private homes were damaged in the regional capital. Shapsha said several people suffered minor injuries from glass shards, but they did not need hospitalization.

The publication Astra reported broken windows and damaged balconies in the Omega residential complex at 1 3rd Akademichesky Drive, as well as in houses at 26 and 27 Minskaya Street. Before the authorities’ statement, Kaluga residents wrote about a series of explosions and air defense activity.

In comments to the governor, some residents claimed the explosions occurred without an air raid alert being announced. One resident of the damaged building wrote that her windows were blown out and asked who would pay for the repairs; later, that comment was deleted, media reported.

What exactly was the target of the attack is unknown. In Kaluga, in particular, there is the Typhoon Instrument-Making Plant and PJSC Kaluga Engine (KADVI), but there is no information that one of these enterprises was hit.

In the same report, the source recalled that Ukrainian monitoring channels had reported a possible strike on the Tsymbulova drone launch base in the Oryol region, and NASA FIRMS satellite monitoring system recorded several thermal anomalies in the area of the site. There is still no official confirmation of a strike on the base or data on its consequences.

The source also wrote that the attack was a continuation of a series of massive raids on Russian regions. On the night of October 2, drones attacked the Volgograd and Samara regions; in Volgograd, an apartment building was damaged, and a fire broke out near the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery and the Kaustik plant.

In the Samara region, a fire broke out on the premises of Transneft’s LPDS Samara — a major hub for receiving, blending, and transporting oil.
