Russian Grain Union reported an almost fourfold drop in wheat exports in the second ten days of September

Private draft

In the second ten days of September, Russia cut wheat export shipments by almost four times compared with the same period last year — to 347 thousand tons. The Russian Grain Union linked the decline to attacks on Black Sea grain terminals and vessels.

During the second ten days of September, 347 thousand tons of wheat were sent for export, compared with 1.3 million tons a year earlier. Shipments of barley fell 9.9 times, to 21.9 thousand tons, and corn — 3.3 times, to 11.8 thousand tons.

In total, during this period Russia exported 381 thousand tons of major grain crops, compared with almost 1.6 million tons a year earlier, according to monitoring data from the Russian Grain Union. Elena Tyurina, director of the union's analytical department, said that the decline in shipments, which began in July, is continuing.

Tyurina predicts that by the end of September, wheat exports will amount to “around 1 million tons, no more”. A year earlier, 5.7 million tons were shipped, and in August 2026 — 1.3 million tons.

The number of countries buying Russian wheat during the ten-day period fell to 8 from 29 a year earlier. The main buyer was Egypt, but supplies there fell 3.6 times, to 81 thousand tons; Kenya reduced purchases 2.3 times, to 50 thousand tons, Yemen received 32.4 thousand tons, which is 1.6 times less than the previous year's level, and supplies to Nigeria also decreased 1.6 times, to 30 thousand tons.

Exports to Iran rose to 28.6 thousand tons from 1 thousand tons a year earlier, and Mexico became a new destination, where 25 thousand tons were sent. Turkey, previously among the major buyers, purchased only 6.1 thousand tons compared with more than 200 thousand tons a year earlier.

Only 10 companies exported wheat during the ten-day period, compared with 51 in the previous season, and grain and pulses were shipped through 9 ports compared with 35 a year earlier. Transshipment through Novorossiysk fell 9.6 times, to 72.5 thousand tons, and through Tuapse — 9.3 times, to 6.1 thousand tons; the infrastructure of these Black Sea ports was damaged as a result of attacks by Ukrainian drones.

Russian wheat FOB Novorossiysk became $2 cheaper, to $212 per ton, and became cheaper than European wheat by $77 per ton. The producer price fell to $105.7 per ton compared with $129 in September 2025, and the union had not recorded such a low level in September for the past eight years.
