«Russia 24» aired a recording of Sergei Mironov instead of his live appearance after the State Duma elections

Private draft

The TV channel “Russia 24” played a voice recording instead of Sergei Mironov when the leader of “A Just Russia” was supposed to comment on the preliminary results of the State Duma elections, the lower house of parliament. Before that, he had not appeared in public for about a month.

On the recording, the 73-year-old leader of “A Just Russia” thanks voters and promises to fulfill his campaign pledges.

While his voice was playing, the channel’s staff put a video in the background, edited together from footage of various campaign events. After the broadcast, Mironov posted this segment from “Vesti” on his Telegram channel and presented it as a full live appearance on the channel.

Earlier, he also posted a recording in which he said that he was personally leading the election campaign. During the election period, the leader of “A Just Russia” posted a video in which he said that he had voted for his party.

Mironov disappeared from public view for a long time after a trip to Altai, a Russian region, in late August. At the time, party representatives said that he had suffered a “minor injury”, and the first deputy chairman of “A Just Russia”, Alexander Babakov, took part in campaign events in his place.

Amid rumors about his serious condition, the politician wrote on X that he was “alive and well”, and that talk about his health was a lie. In the election, “A Just Russia” hovered on the edge of failing to enter the State Duma and cleared the five-percent threshold only after 96.95% of the votes had been counted.
