Industrial production in Russia rose by 1.8% in September after a decline the previous month

Private draft

Industrial production in Russia rose by 1.8% year on year in September after falling by 0.6% in August, Rosstat reported. The figure was significantly better than analysts’ expectations, which had called for a decline of 0.1%.

In the third quarter, growth accelerated to 0.5% from 0.2% in the second quarter. Over the first nine months, industrial output increased by 0.2% compared with last year.

Manufacturing output in September increased by 5.6% year on year after contracting by 0.5% the previous month. Since the start of the year, the figure has risen by 1.0%.

The fastest-growing sectors in September were those tied to the military-industrial complex and state defense orders: output of computers, electronic and optical products jumped by 38.0%, production of other transport equipment, including aircraft and shipbuilding, rose by 29.3%, and output of finished metal products increased by 20.1%.

Of the 28 main mining and manufacturing industries, production declined in 21. Growth was seen in sectors in one way or another linked to the military-industrial complex amid Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

Mining, by contrast, accelerated its decline to 4.1% from 1.3% in August, and for January–September it fell by 1.3%. Last month, the Ministry of Economic Development worsened its forecast for industrial production dynamics this year, expecting a decline of 0.2% instead of growth of 0.6% in the previous forecast.

In 2025, the pace of industrial production growth in Russia slowed by more than four times to 1.1% from 5.1% a year earlier.
