Alexander Prokhanov and the “Night Wolves” held a prayer service and religious procession with the consecration of a “moon stone” in Izborsk, Pskov Oblast, on September 27. After the event, Prokhanov said that it was the “baptism of the Moon” in order to “make it Orthodox and unite it with Russia”.
The event took place on September 27, the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, “Agentstvo” reported. Before it, members of the “Night Wolves” brought to the region from Novgorod Oblast a fragment of Shcheglets — a granite boulder with Bronze Age petroglyphs.
In the post by biker club leader Alexander Zaldostanov, the stone is described as having “celestial origin” and preserving the “secret of the Battle of Kulikovo”, but there are no scientific data confirming its extraterrestrial origin. In Izborsk, this fragment of soil was laid in the foundation of the worship cross.
A prayer service and religious procession took place near the cross, and the stone was consecrated, Prokhanov said in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda. In the same interview, he said that the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross was decided to be held as the “baptism of the Moon”, and called the fragment of soil brought from Novgorod Oblast a “moon stone”.
After the prayer service, the “Night Wolves” showed a stunt program with a platform on which there were a lunar rover and an armored vehicle. Prokhanov also said that the Shcheglets boulder is the same kind of moon stone, which “landed several millennia before our era” and became “a message from the heavens to this land, which later became Russia”. The Izborsk Club was founded by Prokhanov in 2012 together with philosopher Alexander Dugin as an ultraconservative think tank. In 2025, Vladimir Putin awarded Prokhanov the title of Hero of Labor and personally presented him with the medal; the president then said that the writer’s books and speeches unite society around the values of patriotism.
