The Zyuzinsky District Court of Moscow sentenced historian of Russian cuisine and TV host Pavel Syutkin to six years in a penal colony in the case of spreading military “fakes”, a Meduza correspondent reported. The case was heard behind closed doors.

The reason for the prosecution was Syutkin’s post in his Telegram channel on April 19, 2022. In the publication, he condemned Vladimir Putin for shelling Kyiv and killing civilians in Bucha; it said: “Kyiv was bombed — Putin’s war had direct parallels with Hitler’s. Now he has his own Babi Yar too. Bucha — more than two hundred executed civilians — women, the elderly, children”.

The historian did not admit guilt and said he was being tried for his open anti-war stance. Earlier, the prosecution had requested eight years in prison for Syutkin.

Syutkin was arrested in October last year. Previously, Z-activists had filed denunciations against him, calling him “a Russophobe and supporter of Ukrainian terror”.

Pavel Syutkin is a Candidate of Historical Sciences and a member of the commission on gastronomic tourism under Rostourism. He often provided commentary on cooking programs on federal channels.
