Oleg Kuvayev was sentenced in absentia to four years and one month in prison
Private draft
The Nevsky District Court of Saint Petersburg sentenced animator and creator of “Masyanya” Oleg Kuvayev in absentia to four years and one month in prison. He was charged under articles on failing to fulfill the duties of a “foreign agent” and on calls for activity aimed against state security.
The prosecution had requested five years and 11 months in prison for Kuvayev. He was charged under Articles 330.1 and 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — for failing to fulfill the duties of a “foreign agent” and for calls to carry out activities aimed against state security, reports Meduza.
The criminal case over calls for activity aimed against state security was opened in October 2023. It was prompted by an episode of “Masyanya” in which the main character suggests that Russian soldiers surrender. In December 2023, Russia’s Ministry of Justice designated Kuvayev a “foreign agent”.
The case under the “foreign agent” article was opened because he failed to submit a report to the Ministry of Justice three times. Since 2006, Kuvayev has lived in Israel. After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he released several anti-war episodes of “Masyanya”.
