Moscow court sends Nikolai Posokhov to pretrial detention in bribery case

Private draft

The Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow sent the former head of the Research Center for the Improvement of Protective Measures at VNIIGOChS, Nikolai Posokhov, to pretrial detention. He took part in developing the mobile protective structure “Kub-M”, intended in part to protect against the consequences of a nuclear explosion.

The court’s decision was reported by RBC, citing sources close to the investigation; the hearing of the motion is also confirmed by the case card on the Moscow courts’ website. Since January, Posokhov had been under house arrest, and now the preventive measure in his case has been tightened.

The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for Moscow filed a motion with the court to place him in custody. RBC does not specify why the investigation asked to send Posokhov to pretrial detention.

The same case also involves the former deputy head of VNIIGOChS, Igor Sosunov. After his arrest in January, he was immediately taken into custody.

Posokhov and Sosunov were detained on January 31. They were charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale; under this article, the maximum penalty is 15 years in prison.

The scientific center headed by Posokhov took part in developing the mobile protective structure “Kub-M”. Work on it began in 2015, and serial production, according to these data, started in the fall of 2024.

The shelter is designed to protect people from the shock wave, light radiation, and radiation from a nuclear explosion. Posokhov himself previously claimed that in its maximum configuration, “Kub-M” can also withstand a direct hit from a HIMARS missile.
