More than 3,500 people have died from Ebola in the DRC

The fatality rate is 48.4%. The epicenter of the epidemic remains the province of Ituri in the east of the country.

Cases of infection have also been reported in the provinces of Tshopo, Haut-Uele, Bas-Uele, North Kivu, South Kivu, and South Ubangi. The Ebola outbreak was officially declared on May 15 in the Congolese province of Ituri.

The disease then spread to other provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as to neighboring Uganda. At the end of August, the World Health Organization reported that the disease was no longer spreading in Uganda.

The World Health Organization called this outbreak the fastest-growing in history. It also said it could surpass the largest epidemic of a decade ago, which claimed more than 11,000 lives.
