According to Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than three thousand foreigners have been expelled from the country since the beginning of the year. The latest group included 84 people, who were banned from entering Georgia.
As The Insider writes, citing Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the latest group included citizens of Russia, Belarus, India, Egypt, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Thailand, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Ghana, Jordan, Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines, China, and other countries.
The ministry clarified that the expelled individuals are banned from entering Georgia. The Georgian outlet Newsgeorgia reported that for all of 2025, the country expelled more than 1,300 foreigners, and at the time this became a record.
Over the past year, the ruling Georgian Dream party has adopted a number of measures tightening migration legislation. In particular, the authorities simplified the procedure for expulsion and searches at foreigners’ places of residence and work, and also tightened the rules for issuing residence permits to students and spouses of Georgian citizens.
Foreigners without permanent residence permits were banned from working as guides, couriers, and taxi drivers. In August, the government expanded the powers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: migration control functions, which had previously been handled only by the specialized department, were also assigned to the criminal and patrol police, and patrol crews now check foreigners’ documents on the streets and carry out inspections in establishments.
