Lukashenko pardoned 15 convicts, 13 of them under «extremist» articles

Private draft

Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree pardoning 15 convicts, BelTA reported. According to the agency, 13 of them were convicted of extremist crimes, and 10 of those pardoned were women.

BelTA writes that the names of those pardoned are not given. All 15 people submitted pardon requests, admitted guilt, repented for what they had done, and promised to lead law-abiding lives.

Since 2025, Lukashenko has periodically released people convicted under political articles as part of an agreement with the US to exchange them for the lifting of American sanctions. Among those previously released were opposition leaders Viktar Babaryka and Maria Kalesnikava, as well as other defendants in such cases. According to the human rights organization Viasna, more than 800 political prisoners are currently being held in Belarus.
