Private draft
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klychko advised residents who have the opportunity to temporarily leave the capital of Ukraine because of Russian strikes on critical infrastructure. After the attacks on October 8, Kyiv experienced major power outages, and the metro temporarily stopped train service.
In a conversation with AFP, Klychko said that Kyiv is moving into a “survival mode”, and advised residents who have the opportunity to temporarily leave the capital of Ukraine because of the threat of a large-scale crisis after Russian strikes on critical infrastructure.
At the same time, the mayor stressed that there is no talk of a full evacuation. “No matter how well we prepare, if air defense does not work, we may find ourselves in a dire situation”, he said. Klychko added that such a scenario would be “the best scenario for Putin to take our empty cities”.
On the afternoon and evening of October 8, the Russian army attacked one of the major energy facilities in Kyiv, said Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, without providing details. After that, the city experienced major power outages, and the metro temporarily suspended train service.
In the evening, the secretary of the Borshchahivka Village Council, Oleksandr Medved, wrote on Telegram that due to the power outage at Kyivvodokanal facilities, Kyiv’s sewage system is temporarily not accepting wastewater.
