As The Insider reported, citing the general director of the Irkutsk Aluminum Plant (IrkAZ) Artem Fominykh on Telegram, medical masks have been made mandatory at the enterprise in Shelekhov. Fominykh linked this measure to the situation after the death in the city of 28-year-old lab assistant of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute Darya Shipilova.
According to Fominykh, meetings of the sanitary and anti-epidemic commission have already been held in the Irkutsk region with the participation of Russia’s Chief State Sanitary Doctor Anna Popova. He also wrote that Rospotrebnadzor is carrying out the necessary set of anti-epidemic measures.
All identified contacts, he said, are under medical observation. At present, they show no signs of illness, and the laboratory test results are negative.
On October 2, it became known that 28-year-old lab assistant of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute Darya Shipilova died of pulmonary plague in Shelekhov. According to the publication People of Baikal, on September 25 she broke a test tube with the disease pathogen in the laboratory, and on the night of October 2 she died in the Shelekhov District Hospital.

By October 2, about 200 people had been isolated in the COVID center. The administration of Baikalsk also published a warning for residents not to travel temporarily to Shelekhov and neighboring settlements because of unofficial information about a plague case, but then deleted the post.
