On the night of October 2, a fire broke out in Volgograd near the Volgograd refinery and the chemical plant “Kaustik” after a massive attack by Ukrainian drones. Governor Andrey Bocharov said that an apartment building caught fire in the Krasnoarmeysky District, one person was hospitalized, and the fire was contained.
Governor Andrey Bocharov said that drones attacked the industrial infrastructure of the Volgograd region. According to him, an apartment building caught fire in Volgograd’s Krasnoarmeysky District, and one injured person was taken to the hospital.
Residents of the city reported numerous explosions in all districts. Footage from eyewitnesses reviewed by The Moscow Times shows a major fire near the Volgograd oil refinery (NPP) and the chemical plant “Kaustik”.
The Volgograd refinery belongs to Lukoil and is among the top 10 largest in Russia. The plant can process about 14.8 million tons of oil per year and produces motor gasoline, including high-octane grades, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, and bitumen.
This same plant was already hit by drones on July 31. At that time, key production facilities were damaged and the primary oil processing units AVT-1 and AVT-6 were shut down. Near the refinery is OAO “Kaustik”, a chemical plant that supplies products to the Russian military-industrial complex.
According to Astra, that same night the Samara linear production dispatch station (LPDS) and Transneft’s largest tank farm were also hit. The site covers more than 216 hectares; it has 71 storage tanks, two oil pumping stations, and an oil blending unit. Four main oil pipelines converge at the station — “Almetyevsk — Kuybyshev”, “Kaltasinsky — Kuybyshev”, “Nizhnevartovsk — Kurgan — Kuybyshev”, and “Guryev — Kuybyshev”; the authorities of the Samara region did not officially comment on the fire at the site, but a missile threat was announced in the region.
