In Ufa, Zemfira’s portrait on the mural at the house where she lived as a child was painted over

As Meduza writes, Zemfira’s portrait on the mural on the facade of a house in Ufa was painted over after a complaint from pro-government activists. This refers to the house where the singer lived as a child.

The mural was created in 2021. It depicted a guitar with Zemfira’s portrait on the soundboard, a girl on a swing, and lines from the song “Sunday”.

In August, the pro-government public movement “Call of the People” appealed to the administration of the head of Bashkortostan with a request to remove the mural. The activists stated that the image of the singer, who, in their words, allows herself “anti-Russian rhetoric”, is inappropriate in wartime.

They proposed replacing the mural with an image of a “patriot” or a Hero of Russia. The administration then responded that only the house owners at a general meeting could decide to change the mural, and it is unknown whether such a meeting was held and how many owners supported changing the mural.
