In the Moscow region and Mari El, the northern lights were seen

As reported by TASS, the phenomenon, rare for Moscow’s latitude, was spotted in the Yegoryevsk and Ramenskoye districts, as well as in the vicinity of Lotoshino. The northern lights could be observed for the past hour in the sky over the Moscow region.

There was no cloud cover in the evening sky, so the green-red shimmering was visible in places with weak light pollution from street lighting and high-rise buildings. This is how the agency’s correspondents described the conditions under which the phenomenon was visible.

Another TASS correspondent reported that about half an hour ago the northern lights were visible in the vicinity of Yoshkar-Ola. Among the observation sites, he named the Medvedevsky District of Mari El and the city of Kozmodemyansk on the banks of the Volga.

Earlier, the Institute of Applied Geophysics told TASS that the magnetic storm recorded on Earth this evening had intensified to G3 level. This level means “moderate” on a scale of five indicators, where G5 is “extremely strong” and G1 is “weak”.
