In Russia, demand for impact-resistant window film and home insurance has risen amid drone attacks

Private draft

Amid the growing number of drone attacks in Russia, demand has risen for impact-resistant window film and for home and business insurance. Solartek said that sales of protective film have increased by 50% this year.

Pavel Levit, manager at St. Petersburg-based Solartek, said the film is applied to glass and helps reduce the risk of shards scattering. According to him, the company’s clients, with offices in 13 regions, include private residents, companies, and government institutions.

Levit added that demand for this material has become so high that a shortage of protective film has emerged on the Russian market. The company sees it as one way to reduce the risk of injury if windows are shattered by a blast wave.

At the same time, Russians are increasingly trying to insure apartments, houses, and businesses against the consequences of drone strikes. Oleg Khanin, CEO of “Soyuz Strakhovye Brokeri”, said that there were almost no requests for such policies before, but over the past year their number has risen sharply.

Khanin said that his company now offers insurance packages against drone raids. According to the Bank of Russia, in the first half of the year premiums on household property insurance policies rose by 18% compared with the same period in 2025.

In August, the All-Russian Insurance Union linked the rise in demand in part to the increasing number of drone attacks. Khanin believes that, amid strong demand, premium growth may continue.

Over the past weekend in Rostov, several residential buildings were damaged during a drone attack, and Mayor Aleksandr Skryabin reported four people injured.
