On Thursday night, Russian forces launched a missile strike on Kyiv. According to preliminary data, at least two people were killed and another eight were injured.
The strike came several hours after the conclusion of the UN General Assembly session in New York, where President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that Russian forces again used ballistic missiles.
According to him, one person was killed in a parking lot near a maternity hospital in the Podilskyi district when missile fragments fell there. A one-story nonresidential building also caught fire there, and two of the injured are in serious condition.
In the Solomianskyi district, warehouses caught fire after the strikes, and three injured people were hospitalized. In the Dniprovskyi district, an administrative building and two more residential buildings were damaged, and a private house was destroyed.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said that eight Kyiv residents were injured overnight. Zelensky wrote that the strike came “right then” when he was meeting with congressmen to discuss U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill to tighten sanctions against Russia.
According to Zelensky, the main targets of the nighttime strike were civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, medical facilities, energy, and logistics. He added that emergency services are working and that people remain trapped in one of the buildings. Klitschko also said that Kyiv has been shelled with missiles and drones for at least four days in a row, and that after the September 23 strike, two people were killed and 45 were injured in the city.
