In Kyiv, they will begin building backup crossings over the Dnipro after strikes on bridges
Private draft
Next week in Kyiv, they will begin building several backup crossings over the Dnipro to keep traffic moving amid Russian strikes on the existing bridges. Under the plan, they must provide at least half the capacity of the current crossings, and construction is expected to take up to three months.
Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mykola Kalashnyk, said this. According to him, the ministry, the military, the restoration agency, and the city authorities have already begun building a dam and a pontoon crossing.
Kalashnyk said that next week in Kyiv they will begin building several more backup crossings over the Dnipro. They are meant to keep traffic moving while Russian UAVs attack the existing bridges.
Construction will take up to three months. Under the plan, the new structures must provide at least half the capacity of the existing bridges.
In the future, the authorities may also build concrete structures and dig a tunnel under the Dnipro. According to the minister, this will require several tens of billions of hryvnias — several hundred million or a billion dollars — and the funds will be sought from international partners.
Today, a Russian jet-powered drone struck the Northern (formerly Moscow) Bridge in Kyiv, damaging the roadway and the contact network, and two people were injured. Before that, jet-powered UAVs attacked the Southern Bridge, which carries cars and the metro, several times in one day; the roadway and the metro’s protective covering were also damaged there, and major traffic jams formed in the city because of the attacks.
The report claims that new modifications of the “Geran-4” UAV with a cutting warhead and fuze “whiskers” are being used for such attacks. It also says that they are likely trying to sever the cable stays on the Southern Bridge.
