In annexed Crimea, wine production fell by 24.7% and 38% in January–August 2026

Private draft

In annexed Crimea, in January–August 2026, production of still wines decreased by 24.7% compared with the same period last year, and sparkling wines — by 38%. According to Rosalkogoltabakkontrol, the decline on the peninsula was noticeably higher than the national average.

Across Russia over the same period, production of still wines fell by 14.8%, and sparkling wines — by 14.6%. Thus, Crimea’s figures declined more sharply than the nationwide ones.

One of the reasons for the production decline cited in the report is logistics problems. Crimean wineries are facing delays in deliveries of bottles and corks, which means they cannot always bottle and ship finished products on time.

In addition, transport costs to the region have risen significantly, and some companies are refusing to deliver to the peninsula at all. Additional factors included power outages and fuel shortages.

Production was also affected by a poor harvest of white grape varieties in 2025, caused by drought. The situation was worsened by a decline in tourist traffic to Crimea, since vacationers traditionally account for a significant share of demand for local wine.
