Private draft
Ilya Yashin canceled his trip to Yerevan after being warned about risks associated with a visit to Armenia. The politician said the issue involved a physical threat and postponed the meetings scheduled there.
Ilya Yashin said that he is in the United States and was planning to travel from Washington to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. On September 20, he planned to go to a polling station, take part in “the big anti-war queue”, and meet with anti-war Russians.
According to the politician, before the trip he was warned about “certain risks” associated with his visit to Armenia. Yashin wrote in his Telegram channel that he could not reveal the details, but that it was about a physical threat. He added that he could not ignore this information and was forced to follow security protocols.
After that, the trip to Armenia was postponed, and Yashin’s participation in the planned events there was canceled. At the same time, he said that he still intends to take part in the “Noon for a Peaceful Russia” action. On September 20 at noon, the politician plans to go to the polling station near the Russian embassy in New York, USA.
Yashin and some other opposition figures proposed holding this action on the final day of voting in the State Duma elections, September 20. They called on those who disagree with Vladimir Putin’s policies to vote exactly at 12:00.
