Houthis shell air base in Saudi Arabia, 13 people injured

Private draft

Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis on Monday again shelled Saudi Arabia with dozens of missiles and drones. According to the Saudi-led coalition, alerts were issued in four cities, and 13 civilians were injured.

The Houthis confirmed that they launched dozens of missiles and drones at a military air base in Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. The group’s statement said the targets were aircraft hangars, radar facilities, runways, and ammunition depots.

The militants described the attack as a response to Saudi airstrikes, including on the port of Mocha. The statement noted that the port was seized by the Houthis late last week.

Officials in Yemen said that the Houthis are simultaneously entrenching their positions along the Red Sea coast. This came amid a new exchange of strikes between the group and the Saudi-led coalition of states.

Planned talks on Monday between Gulf Arab states and Iran on the rules for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz were canceled. According to the coalition, on that day alerts were issued in four Saudi cities, and 13 civilians were injured.
