Private draft

Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office suspects former head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service August Hanning of cooperating with an agent of Azerbaijani intelligence, Der Spiegel writes. According to the investigation, Hanning used secret documents from the former head of his office, Manfred D., to prepare an analytical report for an officer of a foreign intelligence service.

This is reported by “Important Stories”, retelling a Der Spiegel publication. According to the outlet, this report was intended for an Azerbaijani intelligence officer.

The investigation believes that Hanning used documents received from the former head of his office, Manfred D. Journalists write that the former intelligence officer did indeed maintain contacts with representatives of Baku.

In particular, Hanning was a member of the board of the “German-Azerbaijani Forum” organization. Hanning’s lawyer refused to speak with journalists and did not comment on the report about his client’s ties to Azerbaijan.
